Goddard was born on the island of Barbados and moved to New York City as a young man, where he began a career as a dancer before turning to lecturing and writing full-time.

Beginning in the late 1930s, Goddard lectured and wrote extensively on a single central idea: that the images a person holds in imagination, felt vividly and repeated often enough, shape the life that follows.
A lasting influence
Goddard published numerous books and gave lectures until his death in 1972, and his teachings on imagination continue to be read and discussed decades later.
